Our sweet little guy broke his tibia and fibula. It happened on Friday night (June 27th) at AZ Airtime... the same place I posted about a few times ago where Braden had his super fun 6th birthday party. The boys love to have Anthony bounce them on the trampolines and that's what was happening. Braden went up with all the joy he could muster and then landed with the most pain of his short-little life. Poor guy was super brave considering what had just happened to him. Thankfully there is a Phoenix Children's Hospital Urgent Care right near our house and we headed right there.
He was pretty sad hanging in the waiting room. We were thinking he sprained his ankle or something, but once the doc showed up and started asking questions I knew it was a break.
And the x-ray confirmed it. Both bones broken. The good... it wasn't on the growth plate. The bad, it needed to be reset. So he and Anthony headed to the ER at Phoenix Children's Hospital where he had to be sedated and have his bones put back in place. This kid is a trooper.
He came home with a pretty firm splint. This was his first visit outside and a little ice cream always helps him feel better.
We got in to see our ortho doctor on Monday. Fortunately (and unfortunately) we already have an established ortho doc from when Braden was in hospital 3-years ago with his ankle problem. Anthony said he was operating the wheelchair under the influence in this picture because he had some Tylenol with codeine before the visit. :)
No codeine in this picture. He truly has had such a positive attitude about this whole thing. He picked neon green for his cast color. And he can't decide whether he wants to let his friends sign his cast or not. :) He has officially learned how to do wheelies in his wheelchair and has been told by us, and more importantly the doctor, that this is not ok.
Getting ready for the next season.
So, no more chilling in the pool for the next few weeks. The prognosis was 3-4 weeks in a full-leg, non-weight bearing cast. The hope is that he'll be able to move into a walking boot after 3-4 weeks. Although there is never a good time for a broken leg, he should be out of the cast before his first day of Kindergarten and the 12-weeks of non sports should be over just in time for the start of fall t-ball.
