Last weekend we went to Show Low Lake for a long weekend. My company has a cabin there and has a lottery each year for employees to have a chance to go and stay. It's taken 10 years, but we finally got it! Now we want to win it every year!
We drove up late on Thursday night and woke up Friday morning to breakfast on the deck. The kids had already been down to the lake to check it out and of course throw a line in the water!
We found this little creek on our first venture out. There were horses in the meadow and one was white, so the kids liked to call him Maximus (from Tangled).
Anthony and Braden did some fishing under the bridge. The previous blog post showed the little sunfish they caught. It was a good intro into fishing for them!
They also enjoyed playing in the creek.
And looking for critters.
The boys like the fact that I drink decaf coffee. Probably not a good idea that they like to drink my mochas with me!
We found lots of tadpoles and crayfish in the creek.
The end of a fun day of fishing.
There was an awesome fireplace for smores.
And those were enjoyed.
The "legend" of the name of Show Low is that 2 men played cards to determine who would be the first mayor. The one who showed the low card won. The main street in town is called Deuce of Clubs... so I think we know what the winning card was. The Farmer's Market is by the statue in town that commemorates that story.
The kids thought this street performer was hilarious!
And it was fun to play and run around in the cool weather!
There's lots of wildlife in this area of the state. We saw Mexican Grey Wolves running through the forest on one of our drives and this cute little deer.
We headed over to Sunrise Ski Resort to ride up the ski lift.
Getting on the lift for the first time!
We ran into a friend from church and she took this picture of us on our ride. It didn't look quite this ominous in real time!
Such a beautiful view at the top!
Hunter took a turn with the binoculars.
The ride down. We kept a tight hold on Hunter. Maybe someday we'll get up here to ski... although we had some complaints about the cold on this trip and it was August!
On Sunday we rented a fishing boat for the morning. Hunter was patiently waiting on the shore to check it out.
We let Daddy and Braden take a spin while we went and had breakfast.
But they eventually picked us up. And Hunter got some pants on!
He did some fishing.
But I think Braden will be more of Daddy's fishing buddy.
Anthony honestly claimed this small mouth bass when we were turning the boat in. Gotta love fishermen tales!
Hunter did think he was pretty cool.
This is a view of the cabin from the lake. It's the only cabin on the whole lake!
We enjoyed the deck, the cool air and the solitude.
Lots of fun daddy and son bonding.
On the way home we stopped at Woods Canyon Lake just east of Payson up on the Mogollon Rim. It was a favorite of everyone's. Anthony texted me in the middle of the week saying he thought we should go back this weekend. I told him we'll plan for a non-holiday weekend when everyone else isn't there, too!
Love my boys.
And we saw bald eagles at Woods Canyon!
